The Scheme to establish Sainik Schools was introduced in 1961 with the primary aim of preparing boys & girls academically, physically and mentally for entry into the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla.

The objectives of the scheme are:
  • To remove regional imbalance in the officers cader of the Defence Forces.
  • To develop qualities of body, mind and character which will enable the young boys & girls of today to become good and useful citizens of tomorrow.
  • To bring public school education within the reach of the common man.
  • To prepare those who fail to make the grade for the NDA for responsible positions in various other walks of life.
